t’s summer in St. Louis and the Delmar Loop is kicking things off with a 4-day celebration of the Arts with Loop Arts Fest.
Piano Street Art celebrating local musicians by G Gamache
We kicked off the fun at the end of May with the installation of 8 pianos located primarily on the Loop Trolley stops (and also at the U City Public Library). Our own Jon Gamache painted the piano located in front of The Pageant Theatre with images of contemporary St. Louis musicians. We encourage everyone to take a stroll down the street – and feel free to play a tune. Many thanks to Jackson Piano for installing these pianos as part of the St. Louis Make Music Day celebrations.
LOOP ARTS FEST 2017 officially kicks off
Wednesday, June 21, with International Make Music Day. Musicians will be performing throughout the day, inside and outside stores and venues throughout The Loop. We are excited to be hosting harpist Zen Harbison from 3 – 4:30 pm and keyboardist Mike Ray from 6 to 7 pm. This is a great time to celebrate the rich music tradition and talented St. Louis musicians. For more information on venues and performances, please visit www.MakeMusicSTL.org. Many thanks to Kathy Favazza and Nika Leoni at Make Music STL for getting this great event going in St. Louis!
Thursday, June 22, enjoy Literary Art with readings at multiple venues throughout The Loop including U City Public Library, Market in the Loop, and Subterranean Books.
Friday, June 23, enjoy the Gallery Walk, celebrating the Visual Arts and Fashion. We will be hosting a Summer Wine Reception from 6 – 9 pm, with free parking behind The Pageant Theatre. Stop by for a glass of wine and meet our newest artists JP Scigliano (rare wood jewelry) and Jane Miles (mixed media) along with jewelers Barbara Rand, Liz Krinsky, and Michele Mohr. Photographers Neil R. Brown, Barbara Marshall, and Micah Usher will also be on hand with their newest work.
Wear comfy shoes and continue to the other Loop venues including the Regional Arts Commission, The Silver Lady, Subterranean Books, Componere Gallery, Craft Alliance, and U City Public Library (interactive coloring event for families). For more information please visit www.visittheloop.com/LoopArtsFest2017.
Saturday, June 24, we wrap things up with perennial favorite Chalk the Loop and Chefs Cook Real. Chalk the Loop is a popular family friendly event that includes drawing contests for adults and kids as well as demonstrations located throughout The Loop. Chefs Cook Real will take place at the Market Place and brings local chefs out to demonstrate their cooking skills with a lot of locally sourced produce. Bring your appetite and sense of fun for a great Saturday in Delmar Loop.
