Serendipity Gallery is in its’ 4th month of business and I love being the Gallery Manager. Here is just one of the many reasons why:
In late September local artist Zachary Smithey provided us with 5 amazing india ink and charcoal images of some St. Louis Cardinal Greats – Stan the Man, Ozzie Smith, Willie McGee, Yadier Molena, and David Freeze. Each one was fantastic. Hung together, they were stunning. I just knew they would all go to a good home because each piece was amazing, St. Louis was in the World Series, and St. Louis loves its Cardinals.
Fast forward to December and these great Cardinal legends were still on our wall. We had a lot of compliments on them, but no one was ready to take 1 or all of them home. We were all feeling pretty down. And, I confess, I was starting to measure a spot for Willie McGee in my house!
Then it happened – serendipity. On the last night of El Monstero at the Pageant, a group of guys (individually and collectively) kept popping in to look at the pieces or peering in the window and pointing. Finally, about 15 minutes before we closed, Steve came into the gallery and announced that he wanted ALL 5 CARDINAL LEGENDS. He and his wife had been working on transforming their basement into a celebration of their shared love of sports. Part of that transformation included painting 1 wall Cardinal red and they needed these 5 pieces to complete their Cardinal collection.
I’m delighted to report that my husband delivered and hung them last week. They look amazing!! I’m so very happy that we were able to match this great art with some really wonderful Cardinal fans who will enjoy and appreciate Zack’s work for years to come.

It was an exciting first Ice Carnival for us – even without the sky divers, but we salute Joe Edwards for his tandum dive on Friday in the bitter cold.
So many great people out enjoying the day – was really nice to see the Delmar Loop come alive. We’ve shared a few shots from our day below:
– Awesome colored Ice Sculpture of our Logo by Ice Visions (even cool when it started to melt)
– Fire Performers
– Human Dog sled races
– Tony Artz performance in the Gallery
Ice Carnival – performers were amazing

Tired of the snow and rain? Need to add a little fun and color to your surroundings?
We can help! Please join us next Friday (January 17th) from 5 to 7 pm for our Pre-Snow Ball cocktail party in honor of St. Louis Art Musician Tony Artz, whose work will be showing at Serendipity Gallery over the next several months. Tony’s work combines elements of music, art and dance – with amazing results. So Friday night, stop by Serendipity Gallery, meet Tony, have a cocktail, and then stroll a few doors down to the Moonrise Hotel for the Snow Ball.
Can’t make it Friday? No worries. Tony will also be performing his unique style of musical painting in the gallery as part of the Delmar Loop Ice Carnival festivities on Saturday (January 18) from 11:00 am until 5:00 pm. We will also have hot chocolate to warm you up.
Looking forward to seeing you soon.
Gateway to the West – Gateway to the Best
We hope everyone had a wonderful holiday and great kick off to 2014.
Don’t put your party clothes away just yet, as the Loop’s annual Snow Ball is just a few weeks away (Friday, January 17) at the Moonrise. This is a great opportunity to celebrate winter and have a little fun – $30 ticket includes 2 drinks, full hors d’oeuvre buffet and music. The people watching – costumes are encouraged – is free! We are excited to participate in this year’s event.
Local silver smith Laura Elizabeth Mullen has made the perfect accessories for your icy white attire – chandelier jewelry. These 3 dimensional earrings and necklaces are absolutely amazing works of art. I have included a few pieces below, but you should stop by and see these wearable works of art for yourself.
Stay warm during the expected “Polar Vortex” and we’ll see you soon.
